Best time to Visit Gangtok (Sikkim)

The best month to visit Sikkim is April to May, & November to December, As the weather, are pleasant and you can enjoy almost every place. But due to the high number of tourists and hot weather in all the parts of the country (India)  April and may season, Prices of everything are on the higher side. Same for  November and December due to holidays prices are a little bit on the higher side.

How to reach Gangtok (Sikkim)

There are two ways to reach Sikkim. By train, the nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (Approx 120 km from Gangtok ) or Siliguri railway station (Approx 112 km from Gangtok). By air, Bagdogra Airport is the nearest approx 92 km from Gangtok.

Keep your Voter ID card with you as this is most convinient for passes & permit. Adhaar card is not the primary document in Sikkim.   

Day 1

Arrive at the airport/railway station, Book your taxi for Gangtok. They will charge approx Rs. 3000 to Rs. 4000 for complete taxi booking depending on the season. But if you are alone, You can opt for the bus which you can get from the Siliguri bus stand which is within walking distance from the Siliguri railway station and Approx 8 KM from New Jalpaiguri railway station. The bus will cost you around Rs. 350 to Rs. 500. The bus will drop you at the taxi stand in Gangtok. To reach Gangtok will take the whole day. Reach Gangtok and book your hotel near MG marg according to your budget and rest. At peak, season hotel will cost you around Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2500 can go up to Rs. 5000.

Note:- Book your hotel ask them for tour of Lachung, lachen.(As Visiting these places reqired many Passes and Permits.)   

Day 2

Have breakfast early in the morning, Go to the taxi stand and book a taxi for nearby sight scenes. Which will include Tashi View Point, Hanuman Tok, Ganesh Tok, and Banjhakari waterfall. Visit these places and back to your hotel to freshen up and get ready to visit MG Marg. Sight scene visit of the places will cost you around Rs. 2000/- for whole 4 seater car. For a single person, you can book a taxi from the taxi stand in Gangtok.

Day 3

Have breakfast and drive towards Lachen, Distance of Lachen is 120 km approx from Gangtok. You will be surprised traveling towards Lachen as the scenery, mountains, and Teesta river will be your route friend. Reaching Lachen will take around 8 hours as en-route you will be experiencing many places like Seven steps Waterfalls & Naga Falls and Of course lunch. Reach Lachen have dinner sleep early as you will leave early in the morning the next day for your next amazing place.

Note :-

  1. You will be provided Dal & Rice for veg and Egg Curry for nonveg. In Morning you will be given bread jam or you can eat Maggi or momos on your cost for breakfast. The quality of food will be below average but it wil come complimentry whether you eat or not.so take lots of eating stuff with yourself. 
  2. Take warm cloths and blanket as these places are too cold. Gloves, Jacket, Boot ETC.
  3. In hotel room you may need extra blanket so take extra  blanket also.

Day 4

Early at 6 am you will have to leave for GURUDONGMAR LAKE, (Click Here For Recent Images) the highest lake in India. En-route breakfast will be provided. After visiting Gurudongmar lake visit Kala Patthar for snow and snowfall. Return to hotel eat lunch and drive towards Lachung valley which is approx 50 km from Lachen. Have Dinner and sleep early as the next day also leave early to next visiting place.

Booking the whole sumo will cost around Rs.25000/- with room and food. Rs. 2000 – 4000 extra/- for zero point & Kala patthar. Usually, 9 people can seat in this car.

  4. Gurudongmar lake is at high altitude of 17800 feet if anyone feels any discomfirt on the way due to lack of Oxygen and high altitude do not Visit.

Day 5

Get up early in the morning freshen up and drive towards zero points, in the way you will be vising Yumthang Valley (The valley of colorful flowers) and the hot water spring. It will take 4 to 5 hours to visit these places and drive back to the hotel. Eat your lunch and drive towards the Gangtok. After reaching Gangtok eat dinner and take a rest.

Ask your hotel guy to arrange a tour of Nathu la Pass, Baba Harbhajan Singh temple & Changu Lake. It will cost Rs. 8000/- to 10,000/- for the whole sumo car. Usually, 9 people can seat in this car.

Day 6

Get up freshen up and have breakfast early in the morning at 8 am. Drive towards Nathula pass(Indo-china Border) Visit Nathula pass, Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple, Changu lake, and drive back to Hotel. En-route lunch will be provided at your cost. Take the rest for an hour and drive towards Darjeeling.

Reach the hotel and eat dinner and take a rest. Ask your Hotel person to arrange a day visit to Darjeeling consisting of Tiger Hill point,  Toy train ride, Happy valley tea estate, and Ghoom Monastery. The next day you will leave your hotel early For the sunrise view.

The cost of reaching Darjeeling is Rs. 2500/- to 3000/-.

Day 7

Get up early in the morning because the best time to visit Tiger hill is 4:15 AM (summers) and 5:00 AM (winters). Take breakfast and enjoy the toy train ride at your own cost. Afterward, eat your lunch and visit Happy valley and Ghoom monastery. Drive back to Hotel, eat dinner take a rest.

One-day sight scene charges is Rs. 6,000/- to 8,000/- depending on the season for the whole sumo car.

Day 8

Have breakfast and drive towards your railway station/Airport.  Which will take 3 to 4 hours to reach which is approx 60 km.

This Sikkim tour and Darjeeling tour will take 8 days minimum and will cost you Rs. 15,000/- to 17,000 per person.I am not including train travel cost or flight cost.  As travelling and staying cost are quite high because of the climate and limited resources.Vegetarian restaurants are there but the taste is missing. For hardcore non-vegetarian it is good place to stay.
